Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads who weave them by hand in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using wool dyed with natural plant dyes. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils to regulate body temperature effectively.
Gabbeh, made by nomads in Iran who dye this wool with natural dyes and hand-weave each strand carefully, are characterized by their fluffy and pleasant texture.
Well-woven Gabbeh are said to last for 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer.
And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, and each one is a unique, one-of-a-kind item.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Notes

Due to being hand-woven, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dyeing irregularities. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products.
Also, Gabbeh are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.

Pom-poms can be removed before shipping

The pom-poms on the corners or in the middle of the Gabbeh can be removed upon request before delivery.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
