Characteristics of the production area (Sirjan)

Sirjan is a city located in the southern part of Iran, belonging to Kerman province. Kilims woven in Sirjan are called "Suzani" or "Silky Pich," and the city has been registered as a kilim production area by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
Sirjan kilims are characterized by their very intricate and sturdy weave. Nomadic women weave them based on their imagination without a design, so their delicacy and intricacy are astonishing. They are Soumak woven, with a surface that does not fluff much, and animal and geometric patterns are often seen.
