Characteristics of Persian Hand-Knotted Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-knotted rugs woven by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using vegetable-dyed wool as an integral part of their daily lives. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability, necessary for surviving in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture due to its high oil content, which helps regulate body temperature. Gabbehs are made by these Iranian nomads who meticulously hand-weave each strand of this naturally dyed wool, resulting in a plush and comfortable texture. Well-woven Gabbehs are so durable that they are said to last for 100 years. Gabbehs, born from a climate with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, also have the characteristic of being warm in winter and airy and cool in summer. And of course, there's their artistry. Gabbehs, created from the imagination of the nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be used on the floor, of course, but are also beautiful enough to be displayed as art on a wall. Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the nap. For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a well-wrung towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent residue, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the hand-knotted nature, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-knotted items. Additionally, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. As a result, there may be a distinctive odor from the dyes used to color the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
