Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh

Gabbeh rugs are long-pile, hand-woven carpets made by the Qashqai nomads of the Zagros Mountains in Iran, using plant-dyed wool as a fundamental part of their daily lives. The Persian Valiant wool used in this product has excellent durability to survive the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture contains a high amount of lanolin, allowing for effective temperature regulation.

The wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads, resulting in Gabbeh rugs that are fluffy and pleasant to the touch.

Well-woven Gabbeh rugs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.

Originating from a climate with significant temperature differences between day and night, Gabbeh rugs are warm in winter and breathable in summer, offering a cool sensation.

And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbeh rugs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature designs of animals and plants, with no two alike, making each one a unique, original piece.

They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.

Daily Care

Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.

For stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Notes

As these are hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please consider these as part of the charm of hand-woven products.

Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique scent from the wool dye may be present.

This scent will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.

Pompoms can be removed upon request

If you prefer, we can remove the pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh before shipping.

Removing the pompoms will not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
