Characteristics of Persian Handwoven Gabbeh
Gabbeh is a long-pile rug woven by the Qashqai nomads of Iran's Zagros Mountains, using vegetable-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product has excellent durability, necessary for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and a soft, pleasant texture rich in oils, which helps with body temperature regulation.
The Gabbeh, handwoven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using this naturally dyed wool, is characterized by its plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last 100 years, demonstrating their exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme day-night temperature differences, Gabbehs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, providing a cool sensation.
And, above all, their artistry. The Gabbehs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature animal and plant designs, making each one a unique, original piece.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can use for years to come?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel or similar cloth firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to the handmade nature, there may be irregularities in shape and pattern, weaving inconsistencies, and dye variations. Please understand that these are part of the charm of handweaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinctive smell from the dyes used for the wool.
This smell will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pompoms can be removed before shipping
If requested, the pompoms attached to the corners and middle of the Gabbeh can be removed before delivery.
Removing the pompoms does not adversely affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like your Gabbeh shipped without pompoms, please feel free to contact us by email or phone below.
