Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile carpets woven by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, using plant-dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture, rich in natural oils, helps with temperature regulation. Gabbeh rugs are characterized by their soft and pleasant texture, hand-woven strand by strand by Iranian nomads using this wool dyed with natural dyes. A tightly woven Gabbeh is said to last for 100 years, indicating its superior durability. Gabbeh, born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, also has the characteristic of being warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing it from feeling hot. And above all, there is its artistry. Gabbeh rugs, imagined and created by nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each one being a unique, original piece. They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art. Why not find your own special Gabbeh, one that you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping along the direction of the pile. For persistent stains: Dilute a mild detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel tightly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-woven products. Also, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, there may be a distinct odor from the dyes used on the wool. This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
Pom-poms can be removed upon request
If requested, we can deliver the Gabbeh with the pom-poms (located at the corners or middle) removed. Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh. If you wish to have the pom-poms removed, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
