Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh Rugs
Gabbeh rugs are long-pile rugs deeply rooted in the daily lives of the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran. They are hand-woven using naturally dyed wool. The Persian variant wool used in this product possesses excellent durability for survival in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, as well as a soft and pleasant texture rich in oils for effective body temperature regulation.
The wool is dyed with natural dyes, and each strand is meticulously hand-woven by Iranian nomads, resulting in a Gabbeh that is notably plush and comfortable to the touch.
A well-woven Gabbeh is highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Gabbeh rugs, born from the extreme temperature differences between day and night, are warm in winter and airy in summer, creating a feeling of coolness.
And, above all, there is their artistic quality. The designs created from the nomads' imaginations often feature animals and plants, making each Gabbeh a unique, one-of-a-kind original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh, a rug you can cherish for a lifetime?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, and gently wipe the surface with a well-wrung towel. Afterward, wipe thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any detergent, then dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Important Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of a hand-woven item.
Additionally, Gabbeh rugs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the wool dyes may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
Pom-poms can be removed before shipping.
If requested, we can ship Gabbeh rugs with the pom-poms on the corners or in the middle removed.
Removing the pom-poms does not negatively affect the quality or durability of the Gabbeh.
If you would like your Gabbeh shipped without pom-poms, please feel free to contact us via email or phone below.
