Characteristics of Persian Hand-woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile, hand-woven rugs made from vegetable-dyed wool by the Qashqai nomads in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The wool used in this product, known as Persian Valiant, is sourced from sheep living in the harsh environment of the Zagros Mountains, giving it excellent durability and a soft, pleasant feel with high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
This wool is dyed with natural dyes and meticulously hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads, resulting in a Gabbeh characterized by its plush and comfortable texture.
Well-woven Gabbehs are said to last 100 years, boasting exceptional durability.
Born from a climate with extreme temperature differences between day and night, Gabbehs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing heat buildup.
And, of course, there's its artistic quality. Gabbehs, created from the imagination of nomads, often feature designs of animals and plants, with each piece being a unique original.
They can be laid on the floor or even hung on walls as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom, following the direction of the pile.
For stubborn stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool and silk) with water, wring out a towel thoroughly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with water to remove the detergent, and dry in a well-ventilated, shaded area.
Please Note
Due to being hand-woven, there may be variations in shape and pattern, weaving irregularities, and dye unevenness. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Additionally, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used to color the wool may occur.
The odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this beforehand.
