Characteristics of Persian Hand-Woven Gabbeh
Gabbeh are long-pile rugs made from plant-dyed wool, hand-woven by the Qashqai nomadic tribe in the Zagros Mountains of Iran, deeply rooted in their daily lives. The "Persian Variant" wool used in this product is known for its excellent durability for survival in the harsh Zagros Mountains, and its soft, pleasant texture with a high oil content for effective body temperature regulation.
The Gabbehs are hand-woven, thread by thread, by Iranian nomads after dyeing the wool with natural dyes, resulting in a characteristic plush and comfortable feel.
Well-woven Gabbehs are highly durable, said to last for 100 years.
Born from a climate with extreme day and night temperature differences, Gabbehs are warm in winter and well-ventilated in summer, preventing a feeling of heat.
And above all, there is their artistry. Gabbehs created from the imagination of nomads often feature designs of animals and plants, making each one a unique, original item with no two being the same.
They can be laid on the floor or even displayed on a wall as art.
Why not find your own special Gabbeh that you can cherish for a long time?
Daily Care
Remove dirt and dust with a vacuum cleaner or broom along the direction of the pile.
If concerned about stains: Dilute a neutral detergent (for wool/silk) with water, wring out a towel firmly, and gently wipe the surface. Then, carefully wipe with a damp cloth to remove the detergent and dry in a well-ventilated shaded area.
Notes
Due to being hand-woven, there may be distortions in shape or pattern, weaving irregularities, and dyeing inconsistencies. Please understand that these are part of the charm of hand-weaving.
Also, Gabbehs are woven from sheep's wool. Therefore, a unique odor from the dyes used on the wool may occur.
This odor will gradually dissipate with use, but please be aware of this in advance.
